A corps cadet is a young Salvationist who undertakes a course of study and training at his own corps in order to become qualified for efficient service in The Salvation Army. Through the many avenues of Salvation Army service offered to them, they strive to serve God as intelligently and as vigorously as they can.

Soldiership of high caliber, local officership with daring and consistency and officership marked by total dedication and sacrifice can be the outcome of serious Corps Cadetship.

CROSSTraining is a prescribed course of study in which Corps Cadets participate. It is practical training to provide the individual an opportunity to discover and develop potential for effective leadership in The Salvation Army as a soldier or an officer.

The curriculum is a collection of units written by Word Action Publishing and Salvation Army approved writers. The units include: Bible study, leadership training, and Salvation Army principles and practices. The CROSSTraining Scope and Sequence is a five year overview of the 10 courses to be completed in the Corps Cadets Curriculum.

Checkpoints

Ten checkpoint questions are taken from the three lessons within each month. There is also one reflection question designed to help the corps cadet apply the lesson to their lives. When the four-week lesson is complete, the Corps Cadet Counselor, the Corps Cadet and the Corps Officer are to sign the monthly report before it is sent to DHQ. Lessons are to be completed and set to DHQ by the 10th of the following month.

CROSSTraining materials are ordered twice a year through the Divisional Youth Department. Corps Officers send in their count and the DYS forwards it to THQ.
